NETA Demonstrates Long-Term Commitment to Quality and Health & Safety Through ISO Certification

NETA first achieved ISO 9001 certification more than 20 years ago, initially with another certification body, before transferring to Centre for Assessment in approximately 2014. The organisation also achieved OHSAS 18001 certification before successfully transitioning to ISO 45001, further strengthening its approach to occupational health and safety management.

Reflecting on the role these standards play within the organisation, NETA highlighted the practical value they bring across a wide range of activities, from understanding the needs of learners, customers, employers and funding bodies, through to managing risk, ensuring staff competence, monitoring performance and driving continual improvement.

Speaking about the certification process with Centre for Assessment, NETA described the experience as straightforward and supportive:

"The process has been seamless. It is a really easy process with direct support from our Centre for Assessment auditors."

Beyond maintaining compliance, NETA believes ISO certification has played an important role in strengthening stakeholder confidence and supporting business development opportunities.

Discussing the wider benefits of certification, NETA explained:

"I am confident that having both ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 has created and supported business opportunities for NETA. Holding internationally recognised standards demonstrates to customers, employers, partners and other stakeholders that quality, health and safety, and continual improvement are taken seriously across the organisation.

The standards strengthen our credibility when responding to tenders, developing new partnerships and engaging with businesses that require robust quality and health and safety arrangements from their suppliers and training providers.

For NETA, this is particularly important because we work closely with industry and employers where confidence in the quality of our provision and our approach to health and safety is fundamental. The standards provide external assurance that we have structured systems in place and are committed to continually improving them.

They have not only supported existing business relationships but have also helped position NETA positively when new opportunities arise."

The organisation believes the value of ISO standards extends well beyond certification itself. While certification provides assurance to customers, employers and stakeholders, it also creates a structured framework for managing risk, improving performance and embedding quality and health and safety into everyday operations.

When asked whether it would recommend ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 to other organisations, NETA commented:

"I would recommend the standards because they provide a structured and practical framework for managing quality, health and safety, and continual improvement. They encourage organisations to identify risks, learn from experience and continually improve their processes. Most importantly, they help turn compliance from a paperwork exercise into something that genuinely supports safer and more effective ways of working."

Having maintained certification with Centre for Assessment for more than 15 years, NETA has seen first-hand how management systems can become part of organisational culture when they are implemented effectively.

Drawing on this experience, NETA encourages organisations considering certification to focus on improvement rather than simply achieving a certificate:

"My advice would be to see ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 as an opportunity to improve the organisation, rather than simply something to achieve for certification.

Start by understanding what the standards are asking for and how those requirements can be built into the way the organisation already operates. Avoid creating unnecessary paperwork or processes just to satisfy the standard. The systems need to be practical, proportionate and genuinely useful to the business.

I would also recommend involving people across the organisation from the beginning. Quality and health and safety should not sit with one individual or department. Everyone needs to understand their role and contribution to the management system.

Be honest about where you are starting from and don't be afraid to identify weaknesses. The purpose of the standards is not to pretend everything is perfect, but to identify risks, learn from issues and continually improve.

Most importantly, keep the momentum going after certification. When management systems become part of everyday business, the benefits go far beyond simply having certificates on the wall."

NETA has now maintained certification with Centre for Assessment for more than 15 years, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to quality, health and safety and continual improvement.

Reflecting on its experience of working with Centre for Assessment, NETA said:

"Our experience with the Centre for Assessment has been extremely positive. The certification process has been thorough and challenging, while remaining supportive and constructive throughout. The auditors have taken the time to understand NETA, our people and the way we operate, helping us identify opportunities to keep improving.

For us, ISO certification is about much more than passing an audit, and Centre for Assessment has helped make the process a valuable part of our ongoing improvement journey."

Through its continued commitment to ISO 9001 and ISO 45001, NETA demonstrates how management system certification can support quality, health and safety, stakeholder confidence and long-term organisational improvement.
